Yorba Linda, North County election results: Yorba Linda highest turnout, highest percentage for Donald Trump, votes cast by mail
Yorba Linda tallied the highest voter turnout, the highest percentage vote for Donald Trump and the highest percentage of votes cast by mail in the seven North Orange County cities served by this newspaper in last month's general election.
Vote counting was scheduled to resume Monday, Dec. 2, at the Registrar of Voters office after a four-day Thanksgiving break. Final results were posted Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The following rounded percentages are based on votes counted in each race through Sunday, not the total ballots cast in each city because not all voters marked a choice in every contest.
Trump leads in Yorba Linda with 58.9% to 37.6% for Kamala Harris and Brea with 49.1% to 47.8%. Harris leads in Buena Park with 51% to 46% for Trump, Fullerton with 53.6% to 43.1%, La Habra with 50.8% to 46.6%, La Palma with 52.3% to 44.6% and Placentia with 48.5% to 48.2%.
In 2020, Trump won Yorba Linda with 57.8% to Joe Biden's 40.3%, but Biden won Brea with 50.5% to 47.6% for Trump, Buena Park with 56.5% to 41.5%, Fullerton with 57.4% to 40.2%, La Habra with 56.4% to 41.5%, La Palma with 55.9% to 42.4% and Placentia with 51.8% to 46.2%.
Trump's percentage of the Yorba Linda vote increased from the 56.6% he won in 2016, but fell behind the 68.1% won by Mitt Romney in 2012 and the 64.3% won by John McCain in 2008.
Steve Garvey leads Adam Schiff in Yorba Linda 64% to 36%, Brea 53.8% to 46.2% and Placentia 52.3% to 47.7% in the race for a full six-year senate term. Schiff leads in Buena Park 51.3% to 48.7%, Fullerton 52.8% to 47.2%, La Habra 50.5% to 49.5% and La Palma 51.2% to 48.8%.
The school bonds Proposition 2 “yes” vote leads in all cities except Brea and Yorba Linda. The right to marriage Proposition 3 “yes” vote leads in all cities except Yorba Linda. The water and wildfire bonds Proposition 4 “yes” vote leads in all cities except Brea and Yorba Linda.
The minimum wage Proposition 32 and the rent control Proposition 33 “no” votes lead in all cities. The health funding Proposition 35 and the increased criminal penalties Proposition 36 “yes” votes lead in all cities.
This year's turnout has dropped in all seven cities: Yorba Linda from 91.5% in 2020 to 82.9% so far, Brea from 89.6% to 79%, Buena Park from 83.3% to 68.6%, Fullerton from 85.3% to 73.8%, La Habra from 85.4% to 70.9%, La Palma from 88.7% to 75.5% and Placentia from 88.6% to 79.4%.
This year's voter registration increased in each city over 2020: Yorba Linda from 47,401 to 48,927; Brea from 28,764 to 30,223; Buena Park from 41,941 to 45,339; Fullerton from 76,225 to 79,519; La Habra from 32,493 to 34,707; La Palma from 9,492 to 9,979; and Placentia from 30,109 to 32,410.
Vote by mail percentages in each city based on the number of votes cast: 64% in Yorba Linda, 62.5% in Brea, 52.3% in Buena Park, 56.2% in Fullerton, 53.4% in La Habra, 59.1% in La Palma and 60.2% in Placentia.
